Options Reimbursements
As college advisor for Options-A Child Care and Human Services Agency, I maintain and processes tuition reimbursement for the Head Start staff. The Head Start staff is reimbursed for professional growth courses that lead to their degree or professional growth to maintain their permit. Reimbursements were processed once the employee had completed the class and passed with a C- or better. The reimbursement form is submitted with receipts and supporting documentation. Part of my responsibilities is to make sure all documentation is accurate and the amounts aligned with what the company would reimburse. Once reviewed, reimbursements are submitted to the division director. Through this activity, I learned the importance of promoting education and reimbursing staff for their professional growth and the importance of maintaining a budget. As mentioned by Bolman and Deal (2013), “investing in people on the premise that a highly motivated and skilled workforce is a powerful competitive advantage” (p. 135).

Budget Project
CCSD 553: Administration in CSA gave me the opportunity to create a program with a corresponding budget. I chose to create a math workshop for nontraditional students. Working with non traditional students (Options Teachers) I have found that math is one of their biggest obstacles in finishing their education. As a response to this need, I created a math workshop proposal that would help alleviate some of their anxiety and possibly foster relationship with peers who can become a support system. Ross-Gordon (2003) suggests that creating workshops where nontraditional students can gain confidence and learn strategies will help them to succeed.

Financial Aid Research
In the course CCSD 581: Foundations of Higher Education, I researched the College affordability and student loan debt. Student loan debt is rising and families are struggling to pay for college tuition. This research paper helped me understand how financial aid allocated to students. I was also able to learn how to help student navigate the financial labyrinth that can pose many obstacles in their higher education career.
