Core Values & Ethics Paper
For CCSD 543: Legal & Ethical Issues I wrote a paper delineating my core values and ethical stand. The acronym that summarizes my core values is H.A.R.M.O.N.Y. The h is for honor, a is for acceptance, r is for respect, m is for motivation, o is for open belief system, n is for nurturing, f is for family backwards. Ethically, I align myself with the ethics of care, because I do believe life presents many moments where there is a lot of grey area not just black and white. I agree with Wilkens (2011), when he quotes Plato and Aristotle, in Beyond Bumper Sticker Ethics, saying “the ethical life is never a “done deal” but rather a process of growth toward a perfect standard” (p.134). As we are exposed to new information, our ideas and thoughts change but it is important to have a strong foundation to start from and writing this paper helped me define my foundation.

Museum of Tolerance Reflection Paper
I believe everyone deserves an opportunity to pursue an education without the fear of being excluded, because they are different. For me, being inclusive is amoral and ethical issue in life and especially in higher education. It is our duty as student affairs professionals to “not only equip students with the skills for positive cross-cultural interactions, but also enlist their help in eliminating barriers to true social justice” (Reason & Davis, 2005, p. 13). In CCSD: The Role of Diversity in Student Affairs Practice, I was able to further reflect on this issue through my visit to the Museum of Tolerance. The visit and the reflection paper reminded me of the evil, we as human beings, can inflict one another. On the other hand, I was amazed at the kindness of people and the resiliency of the human spirit. Through education and understanding we can move toward acceptance of each other.

Faith Development Paper
I am a spiritual person but defining it has taken time, and yet I feel it cannot be defined, because it is always evolving. Participating in the first year retreat, and writing a reflection paper helped bring all my thoughts together on spirituality. I feel it is important to provide that “safe” space for individuals and especially students to talk about their faith and spiritual journey. Students look to the faculty to create the “safe” environment, so the dialogue can be facilitated and supported (Rogers & Love, 2007). Students can benefit greatly from talking to those individuals who are most like them and those who are different under a safe and moderated environment (Small, 2009).
