Philosophy of Student Affairs
Higher education is an amazing experience, an opportunity to learn new things and expand horizons, but can be overwhelming without guidance. Often times, students feel lost and without purpose, which can greatly affect their choices. My student affairs philosophy is to assist students in a holistic way, by providing an environment, which gives the opportunity to develop their identity through exploration. The environment should also provide challenges that foster growth with appropriate guidance.
* I believe, once students ignite their fire by finding their purpose, no struggle or hardship
will stand in their way of success (Evan et al, 2010).
*I believe, encouraging involvement in their education and campus life will assist students in
obtaining the best learning experience possible (Astin, 1999).
*I believe it is our responsibility to assist students in their transitions into their new roles
by giving them the tools necessary to succeed (Schlossberg, 2011).
It is our duty to inspire the students in finding what drives them, because that will assist their transition into college life and give them encouragement to be involved in their education and growth as a human being.
